Four Winds Cultural Centre
Southport Aerospace Centre Inc. would like to acknowledge that Southport is located in Treaty 1 Territory and the lands are the Traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Ojibway, Oji-Cree, Dakota, Lakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. Southport Aerospace Centre Inc., its Board of Directors and staff, respect the Treaties that were made on these territories and acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past. As an organization, Southport Aerospace Centre Inc. dedicates itself to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities and commits to a spirit of Reconciliation and collaboration for the future.
The Four Winds Cultural Centre, a representation of Southport's dedication to the local Indigenous community, joined Southport's Interpretive Park in 2021. Southport Aerospace Centre Inc. was honoured to officially introduce and welcome the community to the Four Winds Cultural Centre on September 30, 2021 for a ceremony and commemoration of the inaugural National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
The Four Winds Cultural Centre stands tall at the entrance to the site with a 30-foot teepee, a spacious community picnic shelter and a sweat lodge enclosure. The teepee is available to the public seasonally as the structure is taken down to protect it from Manitoba's harsh winters. The community picnic shelter is also a seasonal space, which was built in partnership with Homestead Consumers Co-Op through the Co-Op Community Spaces program. The sweat lodge is available for use all year round and is sheltered in an enclosure adjacent to the teepee.
The Four Winds Cultural Centre is a picturesque, outdoor public space available for use by the general public, organizations, advocacy groups, schools, and businesses in order to celebrate, respect, and understand Indigenous culture.
